Gov. Reynolds Signs Letter Urging Confirmation of Supreme Court Judge

DES MOINES, Iowa - Governor Kim Reynolds is one of 24 Republican governors to sign a letter urging the swift conformation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.

The letter is addressed to the Republican and Democratic leaders of the U.S. Senate and the Senate's Judiciary Committee.

It says the governors support Judge Barrett's judicial philosophy, which protects powers reserved to the states.

Four Republican governors declined to sign the letter.

Both of Iowa's U.S. Senators - Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst - are members of the Judiciary Committee which will hold hearings on Barrett's nomination beginning Monday.

President Trump nominated Barrett on September 26th. Her selection would fill the seat left after the death of Judge Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham has stated he expects the nomination to be approved by Oct. 22.

The four Republican governors who declined to sign the letter are from Maryland, New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts. A spokesperson for New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu told WMUR-TV that he didn’t sign the letter because as governor, he has no role in the confirmation process.
