Iowa Secretary of State Criticizes Linn County Auditor on Absentee Ballots

IOWA - Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate is criticizing Linn County Auditor Joel Miller as November's election approaches.

Miller asked on Twitter Saturday if the Secretary of State will suspend the counting of absentee ballots at 10 pm on election night.

Pate responded, saying, "That's an idiotic notion. Every eligible ballot will be counted." Pate further tweeted, "Stop spreading misinformation. Stop sabotaging elections.”

Miller had expressed concern that not all of Iowa's 99 counties would finish counting absentee ballots by 10 pm on election night.

He posted a letter he sent to the state "Director of Elections" and a response from Director Heidi Burhans. Burhans response stated that Miller's office would have 46 hours to tabulate absentee ballots. It suggested Miller contact other county auditors for suggestions on how to manage the processing of absentee ballots.
