Iowa Prisons Experiencing COVID-19 Outbreaks

DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa's prisons are experiencing a spike in COVID-19 cases, with the total nearly doubling to more than a thousand between Friday and Sunday.

Outbreaks in the hundreds are now reported at the Clarinda and North Central locations, after one was reported last week at the Anamosa prison. About 40 percent of the inmates tested at Clarinda were positive.

More than 100 prison staff members statewide now have the virus, with about half of them at the Anamosa location.

The COVID-19 statistics for the state prison system were undated Sunday.
