IOWA CITY, Iowa - A racial discrimination lawsuit from eight former University of Iowa football players is moving forward, but they're dropping their demand for $20 million.
A letter to the school last month demanded the settlement money and the firing of head coach Kirk Ferentz, assistant coach Brian Ferentz and athletic director Gary Barta.
The university refused to pay the money or fire the personnel and defended changes it made to improve conditions for Black players.
The players are now requesting information from a law firm the school hired to investigate the football program.
Dozens of former players spoke out on social media back in June about racial discrimination and mistreatment. Their activity came just as protests were taking place across the country over the death of George Floyd.
The eight players bringing the lawsuit are represented by Tulsa based civil rights attorney Damario Solomon-Simmons, who has been corresponding with the university.
The players are are Akrum Wadley, Aaron Mends, Jonathan Parker, Marcel Joly, Maurice Fleming, Reggie Spearman, Kevonte Martin-Manley and Andre Harris.
