AMES, Iowa - Iowa State University says it's not going to discipline its college Republican group.
More than 700 students, employees, alumni and parents signed an open letter demanding penalties after the group called for people to "arm up" after Joe Biden was declared the winner of the presidential election.
The school says doing so would violate the Republican group's First Amendment free speech rights and would be against the law.
The open letter had also asked the school to change its Student Code of Conduct addressing how the institution responds to speech by students and student organizations that promote hate on incited violence.
The statewide Iowa Federation of College Republicans (IFCR) has already disassociated itself with the Iowa State group.
