SCOTT COUNTY, Iowa - Recount boards in Iowa's 2nd Congressional District say rules for counting absentee ballots are slowing their work.
They says the recount process of absentee ballots will take to much time too complete by the their deadline on November 28th.
The Quad Cities Times reports recount boards in Scott and Johnson counties are currently dealing with a large number of absentee ballots.
The boards are required to hand counts of each precinct, and all absentee ballots together in a county are considered an individual precinct.
That means 60,000 absentee ballots and Scott County.
The Quad Cities Times reports the Scott County Attorney’s Office deemed such a feat “an impossibility,” given the time frame required to complete the recount.
Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate has estimated that a complete recount of the race should be complete by mid-December.
Republican Marianette Miller-Meeks leads Democrat Rita Hart by a razor tight 50 votes in the southeast Iowa district.
