CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Ankeny is the 4A state champion in Iowa high school football.
In a battle of metro Des Moines teams, Ankeny defeated Southeast Polk 42-14 to win the school’s third championship last night.
It's also its first title since the school split in 2013. Southeast Polk finished as runner-up for the second time in school history.
Ankeny came in as the underdog with one loss during the season, while Southeast Polk was rated number one state wide and was undefeated coming in.
The game was played under strict COVID-19 restrictions at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, with only two spectators per player allowed to attend.
Two other championship games were played earlier in the day Friday at the UNI Dome.
