DES MOINES, Iowa - Most measurements of COVID-19 levels in Iowa are continuing to fall.
Daily cases and hospitalizations are higher than in the spring, but are on a downward trend since peaking in mid-November.
The New York Times COVID-19 tracker shows Iowa as one of 13 states where new cases are higher, but going down.It does list Iowa as the state with the biggest increase in deaths, although those numbers are tied to last month's virus outbreak in the state.
Most of Iowa's 99 counties still have high positivity rates by state standards, although the number is dropping day by day. Schools in counties with a positivity rate at 15 percent or higher over a 14-day average are allowed to conduct online only classes. There are 22 counties below that level as of early Monday Morning.
The number of COVID-19 outbreaks at nursing homes is near the high mark reported in late November, but has dropped a bit since. The Iowa Veterans Home in Marshall County has had 134 cases with 99 recoveries.
