Winter storm continues to roll across Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The winter storm that rolled into the state early this morning is expected to continue into tonight.

The National Weather Service says snow will continue to fall through the evening, and could still be heavy in places.

They say some of that snow will transition to a wintry mix, including freezing rain, before ending before daybreak especially in Southern and Southeast Iowa.

The Weather Service says precipitation will result in widespread travel hazards across nearly the entire state.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for most of Iowa through Wednesday morning.

The Iowa Department of Transportation says the state’s highways and interstates are partially or completely covered with snow or ice across the entire state.

The IDOT put a tow ban in effect for Polk, Dallas, Jasper, Story, and Warren counties late Tuesday morning.
