Warmer weather by mid-week in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa will see warming weather though the middle of this week.

"We'll see temperatures by Wednesday into the 40's, maybe near 50 degrees near the Missouri River, and upper 30's in Eastern Iowa" says National Weather Service meteorologist Andrew Ansorge.

He says temps in the upper 40's and low 50's aren't all that unusual for this time in January--that there's typically a moderate thaw at some point in the month.

Ansorge says it won't last through week's end.

"Cold front's expected to come though on Thursday, by Friday we're looking at temperatures back into the upper 20's to middle to upper 30's across Southwest Iowa" he says.

Ansorge says we'll also see a chance for rain, snow, or both by the end of the week.

"Right now our forecast has a mix of rain and snow depending on what part of the state you're in. There's a better chance for snow, as you would expect, over Northeast Iowa and a better chance for rain over Southwest Iowa" he says.

The National Weather Service says the cold front Thursday will also bring some strong winds along with falling temperatures and the chance for rain and snow.
