Des Moines, IA -- A winter storm will dump up to almost a foot of snow in parts of Northwestern Iowa Thursday into Friday, with blizzard conditions likely in Western Iowa Friday. The Ames area is likely to get five to nine inches of snow.
The heaviest snow will be west of I-35 and north of I-80, and that's where a Blizzard Warning will be in effect Friday.
Winds are expected to reach 30, 40, even 50 miles an hour at times, and blowing snow is likely to create whiteout conditions at times.
