(Des Moines, IA) -- A young Des Moines father is hoping to get on the Heart Transplant list after suffering from sudden heart failure on Christmas.
30-year-old Dustin Bachmann has three children, and has been told he has just months to live if he doesn't get a new heart.
Friends and neighbors are helping raise money for expenses for the family with southside Des Moines restaurant fundraiser, and a Go Fund Me page.
On Sunday Tumea & Sons hosted a fundraiser had people lined up in their cars over half a mile to buy the $15 grab-and-go pasta meals p with proceeds going to Bachman's family.
“We’ve had so many people want to step up and help. During rough times and the time the world is going through right now, to see the good that still is here is unbelievable.” Bachman tells WHO-13.
Earlier this month, Bachman was given just months to live by doctors. His heart is failing because of damage from cancer treatment he received when he was 15 months old. He is hoping to get on the Heart Transplant List in May.
The overwhelming support witnessed Sunday proves to Bachman that he is not alone in his battle. “I only have one option and the option is prayers. Keep them coming. The medicine just has to work to get me by. It’s jumped up to May from July and hopefully I’ll be getting that new heart in May,” Bachman said.
