(Des Moines, IA) -- Dangerous travel conditions could affect this morning's commute with the arrival of another winter storm.
The National Weather Service says Des Moines could see two to four inches of snow today with the heaviest falling between 6 a.m. and noon.
Ames will get anywhere between one and four. A Blizzard Warning is in effect north of a line from Carroll and Fort Dodge, through Ames, and Grinnell. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Des Moines and much of the rest of Iowa.
"The visibility is going to be low and the roads can completely freeze over, so the travel hazards could actually be a lot more dangerous," says Meteorologist Alex Krull.
Conditions will start this morning with rain and a possible flash freeze as temperatures plunge and quickly change melted snow and rain left on the ground and roads into ice.
Temperatures will feel like (-15) to (-20) degrees through the weekend.
Wind chills could reach (-30) degrees Sunday.
Krull reminds Iowans to protect their pets, plants, and pipes from the cold over the weekend.
