Already cold weather in Iowa will be getting colder

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Already cold weather across Iowa will be getting colder as the weekend approaches.

"By the time we get to Friday, we're looking at highs in the lower single digits if not below zero across Northern Iowa. That's going to continue through the weekend and even into Monday--we could be talking about low temperatures approaching 15 below and even worse than that," says National Weather Service Meteorologist Allan Curtis.

He says winds of 10 to 15 miles per hour will push wind chills to -30 or colder.

Curtis says the cold also comes with chances of snow.

"There will be a couple of rounds moving through, we could very easily see two to four inches of snow as we get to Saturday morning," he says.

Curtis says there is some light at the end of a very cold tunnel.

"We're looking at temperatures getting into the teens above zero and maybe lower 20's be next week," he says.

The National Weather Service has almost the entire state of Iowa under a Windchill Advisory from late Thursday night through Friday afternoon. They saw wind chills could be anywhere from -25 to -35 across the state.
