Iowa Congress Members Sign Letter Seeking More COVID-19 Vaccines for State

IOWA - Iowa's four U.S. House members are making a bipartisan effort to get more COVID-19 vaccines into the state.

The three Republicans and one Democrat have signed a letter asking for maximum involvement in a program that delivers vaccines directly to certain health providers.

The new program will start sending vaccines Monday to health centers serving the most vulnerable people.

The Iowa Congress members are asking for as many of those centers in Iowa as possible to be included in the effort.

Iowa currently ranks near the bottom in vaccinating its residents for the virus.

The letter was signed by Republican Representatives Ashley Hinson, Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Randy Feenstra along with Democratic Representative Cindy Axne.

It was sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The Congress members asked for the largest number possible of the 250 health centers to be selected for the program be in Iowa.

They said it was a "grave oversight" for Iowa to be left out of a pilot program that includes 25 health centers which will initially receive the vaccines.
