Des Moines police officer accused of interfering in Altoona investigation

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A Des Moines police officer is being accused of using his authority to interfere with an Altoona Police investigation involving a friend.

In a news release, Des Moines Police say Senior Police Officer Rodney Alan Briggs is on paid administrative leave after being arrested by Altoona Police.

He's charged with a count of non-felonious misconduct in office--a serious misdemeanor.

The department says Briggs is accused of using is position as a police officer in trying persuade Southeast Polk School District employees to give him video evidence related to the Altoona investigation that involves a friend of his.

The news release says an internal investigation has been initiated by the Des Moines Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards.
