DES MOINES, Iowa - Governor Kim Reynolds says a reporting error is the reason Iowa ranks at the bottom for delivering the second dose of COVID-19 vaccines.
"The bulk of it has been tied to the long-term care partnerships," said Reynolds Wednesday during her weekly news conference. "In updating that file, the file failed, so they are redoing that file...We think it will correct itself relatively quickly."
Reynolds didn't say how many second dose injections have not been reported.
As of Thursday morning, Iowa and Utah rank at the bottom for delivering the second round of Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.
When initially asked about the problems with second doses last week, Reynolds said she was unaware of the problem and suggested the ranking was incorrect.
Iowa could benefit from the presence of the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, as the state continue to rank in the top 15 for giving out the first dose.
25,600 doses of the J & J vaccine have been sent to 17 Iowa counties this week.
Reynolds, along with her husband and Iowa Department of Public Health Director Kelly Garcia were each given the Johnson & Johnson vaccine during the Wednesday news conference.
