CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The person identified as the wrong way driver in a deadly Cedar Rapids crash is an Illinois murder defendant who is out on bail.
Thirty-four-year-old Tyler Lee of Rockton, Illinois is charged with 1st Degree Murder in the shooting death of a man in 2017.
Police say Lee was driving the wrong way just after 2 a.m. Sunday morning on I-380 when he smashed into an SUV carrying four people.
Lee has not been charged in the crash that killed a passenger in the SUV.He has an April court date in his murder charge.
Twenty-three-year-old David Nguyen of Cedar Rapids was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on the S curve of I-380 near downtown Cedar Rapids.
Two other people in the SUV, along with Lee was taken to a hospital with injuries. another passenger in the SUV later drove to a hospital for care.
Cedar Rapids police have not said whether they think drugs or alcohol was involved in the crash, which remains under investigation.
Lee is accused of killing 38-year-old Christopher Peters in Loves Park, Illinois in May of 2017.He was originally arrested on drug charges, and was later charged with murder.
He was held on a $1 million bond, and was then released after the 10 percent bail was posted.
