The House Administration Committee is postponing a decision on Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks's request to dismiss the election contest of Rita Hart.
Hart officially contested her six-vote loss to Miller-Meeks back in December, and is now in the hands of the House Administration Committee. Miller-Meeks filed a request to dismiss the contest.
"The American people deserve to know who actually won this election," said House Administration Chair Zoe Lofgren (D-CA19). "And the people of Iowa's 2nd Congressional District deserve to be represented by the person."
Republicans on the committee attempted to get the committee to immediately dismiss the contest, saying Miller-Meeks has been certified as the winner of the election.
"We already know the outcome of this contest," said Ranking Member Rodney Davis (R-IL13). "Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks won a free and fair election. It's in the best interest of taxpayers, and the integrity of our election process, to dismiss this motion and dismiss it today."
The committee voted 6-3 to agree to a resolution to postpone a decision on Miller-Meeks's request to dismiss.
