DES MOINES, Iowa -- All this rain will turn into snow overnight.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory beginning at 1 a.m. Monday and ending at 4 p.m.
"It's going to be actually a gradient across the metro," said National Weather Service Meteorologist Andrew Ansorgee. "We're seeing rain changing to snow probably towards or if not after midnight tonight, and so areas on the southern side of Polk County might see maybe zero to one inches, and on the northern side of Polk County, up toward Story County it could be one to three inches of wet snowfall."
He says some parts of the metro could see more snow than others, but we're all getting at least some rain/snow mix.
"Fortunately, you know, it won't be a lot of snow. You know, we're looking at temperatures being largely for the rest of the week above freezing, so we should be able to melt most of it here in the metro and northern Iowa is going to have more snowfall so it might take a little bit longer to melt. Even up there, they're looking above freezing as well."
Ansorgee says Northern Iowa could see up to eight-inches near the Minnesota border.
He says the timing of the snowfall will likely affect your morning commute.
"We'll see that transition to snow overnight, probably after midnight here in the metro and Polk County area. That'll continue probably at times fairly heavily through the early morning hours and should begin to lessen toward mid-morning."
Cedar Rapids will see anywhere between one and four inches.
Davenport, the Quad Cities, is looking at zero to three inches.
They say snow could accumulate up to an inch per hour at times.
