DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds is joining fourteen other Republican governors in opposing the Biden administration's plan to conserve public land.
The governors signed a letter saying the plan would limit productive use of land, infringe on property rights and hurt the economy.
The letter also questions whether the federal government has the authority to set aside the land.
The Biden administration is proposing to conserve 30 percent of U.S. land by 2030 as part of an executive order on climate change.
The letter was signed by Republican governors mostly of states in the Midwest, west and southern United States.
Some of the western states have large portions of land already under federal supervision, while the southern states have mostly private land.
The letter asks for more consultation from the states.
The Biden administration's plan is known as the 30 x 30 program. It seeks to transition nearly 440 million acres into federal protection.
