DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Downtown Des Moines Farmers' Market starts it's 2021 run on Saturday.
The market comes back after a year off during the COVID-19 pandemic, and one of the big changes for 2021 is fewer vendors.
"About 115 vendors instead of the usual 225. We'll have many of our amazing fresh produce and food producers from across the state, as well as many of our favorite artisan makers and bakers" says Downtown Farmers' Market Director Kelly Foss.
She says fewer vendors allows for more of social distancing between booths.
"This is going to make sure that our vendors have space between each booth--somewhere about 12 feet, something like that, between each booth" Foss says.
She says there will be a number of COVID-19 safety measures at this year's Farmers' Market.
"We'll have some signage to encourage people to stay a distance of six feet apart when possible. All of our vendors will be wearing masks, and we'll ask our attendees to wear masks. We'll also have some hand sanitizer stations throughout the market area," Foss says
She also says customers will also be asked to use "one way" foot traffic as they walk through the market.
The 2021 Downtown Des Moines Farmers' Market runs through the end of October.
