Iowa COVID-19 Hospitalizations Drop Under 200 For First Time in April

IOWA - COVID-19 hospitalizations in Iowa are under 200 for the first time in April.

The state dropped under the level over the weekend and continues the downward trend as of Monday morning (179).

Hospitalizations peaked at roughly 1,500 a day during an outbreak in the state during November, and have fallen sharply since.

Iowa's COVID-19 positivity rate is just over 4 percent (4.2 percent over a 14-day average), a level that has been relatively consistent in the past couple of weeks.

Numbers from the New York Times show new cases have fallen by 20 percent in the last 14 days, which is a steeper drop than the national average if 16 percent.

Iowa is one of 36 states where new cases are dropping. Oklahoma has seen the biggest decrease in cases, falling 54 percent in the last 14 days. Oregon leads the 14 states with a rising number of cases, with an increase of 51 percent in the last 14 days.
