DES MOINES, Iowa - Governor Kim Reynolds wants Iowa's COVID-19 vaccination rate to reach 65 percent of adults by the end of May, and 75 percent in June.
Reynolds set the goal Wednesday, while also floating the idea of sending mobile vaccination clinics to baseball games and farmers markets.
Demand for vaccine shots has dropped in Iowa, with 80 of the state’s 99 counties declining all or part of their weekly allotment.
Vaccine shots given to people peaked in early April and have fallen off in the weeks since then.
University of Iowa Health Care announced this week that it's joining a national campaign to motivate more people to get vaccinated.
It's targeting groups that are more resistant to getting vaccinated, such as rural and young people, who could delay the country from reaching herd immunity.
About a million Iowans are now fully vaccinated for COVID-19. That number was reached Wednesday afternoon, and represents about 47 percent of the adult population.
Vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are currently available to people 16 and older across Iowa and the entire U.S.
