Iowa Senate sends Vaccine Passport ban bill to Governor's desk

The Iowa Senate is sending a bill to the Governor's desk that would ban the use of vaccine passports in certain circumstances in the state.

House File 889 would "prohibit the mandatory disclosure of whether a person has received a vaccination for COVID-19, disqualifying certain entities from receiving state grants or contracts, and including effective date provisions."

It exempts health care facilities, such as long-term care facilities and hospitals from this mandate.

The bill passed the Senate 32-16. Two Democrats, Senators Eric Giddens (D-Cedar Falls) and Jackie Smith (D-Sioux City) joined all but one Republican to vote in favor of the bill. Senator Jim Carlin (R-Sioux City) was the lone Senate Republican to vote against the bill.
