DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Colonial Pipeline shutdown could lead to a gas shortage in the Southeastern United States, but Iowa gets its gas from a different distribution chain.
Patrick DeHaan with GasBuddy.com says it shouldn't affect Iowa like it will affect some other states.
"Supplies are running a little bit low in the Southeast states. Thankfully, this is not something that would impact supply anywhere near Iowa."
He says gas prices could go up a bit, but not much, if at all in and around Iowa.
A cyber attack Friday has left the Colonial Pipeline shut down.
DeHaan says our prices could go up a lot more if we don't conserve.
"If everyone rushes out to fill up, that's going to lead to a larger price spike. So, its really in motorists hands how they respond. If they can do so without panicking, we'll get out of this much better off."
Gas prices have been going up in Iowa recently.
