IOWA - Iowa boaters are being warned about low water on lakes and rivers because of drought and dry conditions.
Dangerous conditions at boat ramps in parks across the state could lead to damage or injuries.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is warning that boats could run aground on some rivers feeding into the Mississippi River.
Boating traffic is expected to pick up with Memorial Day weekend coming up next week.
The DNR is specifically warning about low water at the Lansing Village Creek.
Boats there could run aground as river levels drop due to a partial closure of the boat channel at the mouth of the creek and the channel going under the bridge.
DNR says recent widespread rain isn’t doing enough to ease Iowa's dry and drought conditions.
“On average we got about three-quarters to eight-tenths of an inch of rain (last week), said the DNR’s Tim Hall. “We should have gotten just over an inch and a tenth. So yes, it rained a lot. But it didn’t even keep up with normal.”
