WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa homes are selling for about nine-percent more right now than they were a year ago.
"Especially given, last year was a pandemic and were still coming out of that--it's a pretty big number," says Iowa Association of Realtors President Jen Burkamper.
She says it's a home-seller's market right now in Iowa.
"I've seen them selling anywhere from--average is probably $15,000 to $20,000 over the list price. I've seen them selling up to $60,000 over the list price," Burkamper says.
A new study says national home prices are up 13 percent from a year ago--the largest gain since December 2005.
Burkamper says Iowa is riding that wave.
"It's not abnormal for us to have multiple offers at different seasons of the market, but what we\'re seeing right now is the craziest I've seen in 21 years," she says.
Burkamper says anyone hoping to buy a house right now should be ready with a mortgage pre-approval letter, an active knowledge of the market, and a level of commitment to buying that house--especially if it means going over the seller's list price.
