Friday showers leave little in Iowa rain gauges

Slightly damp soil the only remaining sign of today's brief rainfall in Des Moines

(Des Moines, IA) -- Rainfall was hit and miss today (Friday) from isolated showers and storms that tracked across the state. The National Weather Service in Des Moines recorded less than .10 of an inch of rain. Polk City, however, received more than a half inch. There were some isolated larger amounts. There are reports that Greenfield in Adair County received up to one inch of rain. Fort Dodge also received between a half-to-one inch of rain, but nearby Webster City received very little rain.

Storms packed some strong winds in some areas. There was a 59 mph wind gust in Emmet County. Strong winds damaged several trees in Burlington. Wind also blew a large garage door off a factory. There was also damage to a wall and a fence in West Burlington.

A few showers and isolated thunderstorms may redevelop later tonight into the overnight hours, mainly over southern Iowa. By Saturday morning, conditions will be dry for much of the next week. Temperatures will rebound back to the upper 80s to mid-90s this weekend, but the humidity will be lower with dew points in the 40s and 50s.
