(Des Moines, IA) -- At least 26 tornadoes hit Iowa Wednesday. The National Weather Service's Brooke Hagenhoff tells WHO Radio News Wednesday's total is the third most tornadoes Iowa has seen in a single day. That number could change as the NWS continues surveying the state. The largest tornado Wednesday was in Lake City in Calhoun County. It was an EF3 with wind speeds up to 145 mile per hour. Four other tornadoes were EF1 with speeds up to 105 miles per hour. Hagenhoff says the most tornadoes in a single day in Iowa is 35 on August 31st, 2014. The second most was 28 in April 2001.
