(Des Moines, IA) -- The Iowa State Fair will not be requiring masks at this year's event. However, they are recommending the use of masks indoors.
"The [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] is not requiring masks, they're recommending it," says Gary Slater, Iowa State Fair CEO. "And that is what we're endorsing."
The fair is also not limiting the number of people who can be inside certain buildings.
"If you're uncomfortable there are plenty of other places on the grounds that aren't nearly as high-density," Slater says.
The fair is also installing metal detectors at all nine of it's entrances this year and will be checking bags upon entry.
The Iowa State Fair will be held from August 12th-22nd.
