(Iowa ) -- The Iowa Department of Transportation is hoping to roll out a new form of virtual identification on a limited basis by early next year.
The D-O-T says the virtual ID will be available through a smartphone app. It won't replace physical ID cards, but the virtual ID will be a valid form of identification that can be used at bars, restaurants, airport security, and more.
The D-O-T says it hopes to debut the limited first phase of the program by January, then allow the general public access to the app by the middle of 2022.
