A former Bellevue Police officer is found dead on the eve of his trial.
The Sarpy County Sheriff's Office says Craig Wiech was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound this past weekend in an apartment near Highway 75 and Capehart Road.
He was set to go to trial today on a charge of felony assault on an officer and a firefighter.
Wiech was also facing trial for tampering with evidence in the 2018 death of his girlfriend, Carrie Brown.
