(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines has a construction project to prevent flooding in some areas. City workers are digging a hole near 41st Street and College Avenue in the Beaverdale neighborhood to create a basin that will be able to store millions of gallons of flood water. City workers tell WHO-13 it is in an area that will not affect any structures, residential or commercial. The flood basin will be completed by the end of this year. More will be built near Northwest Drive and near 48th and Hickman.
