(Omaha, NE) -- Changes are coming to a deadly intersection west of Omaha in November.

The construction will follow suggestions from an N-DOT traffic study on the intersection of U.S. Highway 77 and Nebraska Highway 109 near the Wahoo airport. The study said a roundabout design would improve the performance of the intersection.

According to a news release, work to change lane patterns in the intersection will begin in November. The N-DOT says drivers can expect to see signs to help understand the different lane markings.

The 3 lanes on east and west US-77 approaching the intersection will be reduced to one lane and the north and south approaches on N-109 will be reduced to one lane. The speed limit will also be lowered to 50 mph.

The construction of the roundabout at the intersection will begin in the Summer of 2022. Construction is expected to last three months.

The changes come in the aftermath of 5 people dying near the US-77/N-109 intersection in a 10 month period.

More information on the plan can be found on the N-DOT website.
