(Des Moines, IA) -- A penguin at the Des Moines Park Zoo, recently underwent an M-R-I at Iowa Radiology in Des Moines. Zoo-keepers say "Chiquita" is being treated for a chronic limp, and the M-R-I helped rule-out a bone or tendon issue. The results have been sent to a veterinary specialist to determine "Chiquita's" next step.
Chiquita is a two-year-old female magellanic penguin.
‘Chiquita’ was fully anesthetized by Blank Park Zoo’s veterinary team during the MRI.
“We would like to thank Iowa Radiology for donating an MRI for a very unique patient,” said Anne Shimerdla, president and CEO of Blank Park Zoo.
“It was truly impressive to see the teamwork of Iowa Radiology and the Blank Park Zoo staff working together on a Saturday morning to obtain an MRI for Chiquita the penguin,” said Dr. Paul Jabour, M.D. “The image quality was fantastic, which was a testament to everyone's hard work. We were glad to help.”
