(West Des Moines, IA) -- A family in West Des Moines escapes their burning home after someone walking by pounds on their door to wake them up.
The West Des Moines Fire Marshal says the person walking by could see the fire coming from the back of the house. Fire crews were called to the house next to Fairmeadows Elementary Wednesday morning just after 6 a.m., where the fire was starting to spread inside. The fire was extinguished, leaving mostly smoke and heat damage.
Two adults and a child got out safely. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
