(Waterloo, IA) -- A Waterloo woman is going to prison for a decade for her role in a large-scale meth trafficking ring.
34-year-old Breanna Garcia pleaded guilty in May 2021 for conspiracy to import and distribute over 4-thousand grams of methamphetamine.
A release from the U.S. Attorney's Office says a wiretap was used through a phone owned by Travis Werkmeister, Garcia's boyfriend. According to the release, investigators intercepted thousands of calls and texts between members of the organization.
Werkmeister worked with Mario Hernandez, the leader of a Mexico-based organization that has imported kilos of meth to Iowa.
Garcia's role was to collect money for Werkmeister and meet up with other members of the organization.
Garcia has acquired 21 prior criminal convictions since 2006.
