(Des Moines, IA) -- The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for most of Iowa, running from Friday morning into Friday night.
Up to 10+" of snow possible, especially heavy snow expected in northern and northwestern Iowa. Central Iowa may see 8+" of snow, with lesser amounts likely in Eastern Iowa.
The National Weather Service forecast says areas from Des Moines up to Ames, Fort Dodge, Algona, and Mason City all have a 60% chance of eight or more inches of snow.
Cedar Rapids and Iowa City are likely to see at least four inches.
The Quad Cities will likely only see a couple inches. The Weather Service says the worst travel impacts in the Des Moines area will be during the evening commute.
