Upheaval in the "Friday Night Lights" of Nebraska

The decision that Gretna High School must vacate it's 2021 Class A state football championship, sets off a storm of controversy and comments among the legions of high school football fans and others in the Cornhusker State.

The Dragons had defeated Omaha Westside 7-3 in the Class A state title game at Nebraska Memorial Stadium in late November, but the Nebraska School Activities Association board received a complaint and held a hearing on whether Gretna Public Schools allowed an ineligible football player to compete.

The Board then voted to uphold the finding of the NSAA Executive Director that Gretna failed to comply with the association's constitution and bylaws.

The iconic NSAA State Championship trophy will be returned, but the players will keep their individual medals.
