(Omaha, NE) -- The first elephant born in Omaha now has a name. The Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium says the elephant calf is named Eugenia.
A release from the zoo says Eugenia means “noble” or “well-born.” Eugenia received her name from the Grewcock Family, who won the naming rights at the Zoo’s fundraiser, Zoofari.
Eugenia was born on January 7th, and is the first elephant born in the Zoo’s 125-year history.
A second African elephant calf is expected to arrive within weeks.
