(Des Moines, IA) -- Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate is encouraging Iowans to serve as poll workers in upcoming elections. Pate says the state needs approximately 10,000 workers to assist voters in elections. He says Iowa has a long tradition of solid voter participation.

Today, January 25th is National Poll Worker Recruitment Day.

Pate says poll workers are a crucial component of Iowa’s elections by checking in voters, making sure they have the correct ballot, answering questions, and helping ensure elections run smoothly.

“You’ll be serving your state and nation, and you’ll get paid for it,” Secretary Pate said. “We cannot administer elections in Iowa without the help of our friends and neighbors at the polls. This is your chance to be a hero right in your community by helping your fellow Iowans vote.”
