Ames, IOWA -- The search is on for Iowa's best burger for 2022.
"It just has to be on a bread product of some kind, and it has to be a 100 percent beef patty--you can have some different condiments on top, and different toppings, but really what we're looking for is a 100 percent beef burger," says Kylie Peterson with the Iowa Beef Industry Council.
She says the Council's asking the public to nominate 10 burgers from across the state.
"Places in Iowa with the most votes will make it to the second round of the contest. You can vote for your favorite burger on our website, iabeef.org," Peterson says.
She says nominations are being taken on their website through March 15th.
Peterson says 10 finalists will be announced next month.
"A secret panel of judges visits each of those restaurants and ultimately chooses that Best Burger winner for the year," she says.
Peterson says Iowa's Best Burger will be announced announced on May 2, 2022, with the kick-off of May Beef Month in Iowa.
Peterson says last year's winner--Bambino's in Ossian, in Northeast Iowa--saw a 75-percent increase in business after being named "Best Burger" of 2021.
