(Des Moines, IA) -- Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds is running for re-election.

"That's why I'm fired up and I am so excited to finally announce, tonight, my candidacy for Governor of the great state of Iowa," says Reynolds.

Reynolds announces the bid for re-election during a rally at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. The announcement comes one week after Reynolds gave the Republican response to President Biden's State of the Union address.

Iowa's Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg is also running for re-election alongside Governor Reynolds.

"It especially matters who serves as [Iowa's] governor because, as we've seen, unanticipated events can come along. Events, in which, there's no playbook," says Gregg.

Reynolds spoke on how she developed a playbook for Iowans in her service as Iowa's Governor, such as the Flat Income Tax and Transgender Athletes in Women's Sports bills she recently signed into law.

"Iowa's state motto is, 'Our liberties we prize, our rights we will maintain,'" says Reynolds. "That's what this election is about. It's not about liberal versus conservation. It's not about Republican versus Democrat. It's about who's going to fight to keep Iowa and America free."

Reynolds' rally at the Iowa State Fairgrounds marks the first of four rallies this week.

On March 11th, Reynolds will be at rallies in Dubuque, Waterloo, and Cedar Rapids to kick off her re-election campaign.
