The Current Flows For "Metro"

The Omaha/Council Bluffs area's first fully-electric buses are rolling.

"Metro" says each 40-foot, zero-emission, electric bus can reduce up to 135 metric tons of greenhouse gas per year.

The buses are also equipped with an upgraded air purification system, which sanitizes the air and surfaces while the bus is operating.

Metro’s electric buses were manufactured in the United States by "New Flyer."

The battery-powered buses use a direct-drive engine that doesn’t require a transmission, or a tailpipe.

Charging of the electric buses will take place in the Metro garage with newly installed high-capacity chargers, which the authority says will fully recharge a bus in approximately 3 – 5 hours.
