New Bills Hope to Extend Iowa Sales Tax Holiday

(Des Moines, IA) -- Iowa's Sales Tax Holiday could be getting an extension.

A pair of bills in the state legislature hope to add an extra day - and would make emergency preparedness items eligible on top of clothes and school supplies.

"[It's] probably a matter of when it affects them, not if it affects them," says Lucas Beenken, Iowa State Association of Counties Public Policy Specialist. "So we want individuals to be prepared for those emergency events."

The Sales Tax Holiday is held the first Friday and Saturday of August every year. The new bills would add Sunday onto that.
