Now that he is Republican Nebraska Governor Candidate Jim Pillen's running mate, Joe Kelly will start unpaid leave from the Nebraska Attorney General's Office on Friday.
Kelly previously served as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Nebraska in the Donald Trump administration.
He is currently Chief of the Criminal Bureau in the State Attorney General's office.
The announcement was made in the Capitol Rotunda.
