(Iowa City, IA) -- Iowa City is approving a COVID-19 relief lottery.
The city council approved the $1.5 million in funding yesterday. The money is coming from the American Rescue Plan Act for the direct payment program. Twenty-five-hundred residents in Johnson County will receive a $1,400 check through the lottery system.
There are a few requirements for the payment including being able to prove the resident was negatively affected by the pandemic.
