Norwalk Breaking Ground On Large Complex

(Norwalk, IA) -- City leaders in Norwalk are breaking ground Thursday on a massive development district project. The Norwalk Central development on Sunset Drive will be one-half sports complex developed by SportsPlex and the city. Mayor Pro Tem Jaki Livingston says the other half of the district will include some housing units, restaurants, shopping boutiques and a hotel. She says there is also a plan for an amphitheater for events and concerts. Norwalk Central will boast a total of fifteen acres devoted to turf fields for different sports. The city says the development will bring about one-million visitors to Norwalk every year after it’s complete. The city says grading is underway for the nearly $140-million development and infrastructure starts in June. The turf sports fields is expected to be complete by spring of 2023 and the entire project by the end of 2023 or early 2024. The groundbreaking ceremony is Thursday, May 12 at 3:00 P.M. at 1850 Sunset Drive.
