A power outage on Des Moines' north side left nearly two-thousand homes and businesses in the dark Saturday morning, including shoppers at Fareway Foods near 2nd and Euclid.

Mid-American Energy spokesman Geoff Greenwood tells WHO Radio News, "At 8:15 this morning, we lost power to about 1,800 customers on the north side of Des Moines, primarily in the Highland Park neighborhood."

The crew quickly found the cause of the outage. Greenwood said when the crew checked it out, "there was a tree on an overhead line in the 3900 block of Cornell Street".

The crew was able to move the tree quickly. Greenwood added, "They were pretty quickly able to restore power to half of the affected homes shortly after 9:00 am and they're working on getting the rest back online."

The outage area is on and around 2nd Avenue in the Highland Park area of Des Moines. Greenwood later said power was restored to all of the homes and businesses just before 11:00 am.
